FAQ
Do I have to start a new game?
Of course you do! This mod requires that you start a new game for this to work correctly.
There are no ifs or buts, it is required.
Is it compatible with the Throne of Bhaal Expansion pack?
No! It is not currently compatible with the Throne of Bhaal expansion pack, and only works when
using BG2:SoA.
Hi! TDD will be compatible with ToB, but then...will Epic Endeavours be compatible with TDD?
Epic Endeavours is not compatible with TDD as the storylines are completely unrelated.
What's new about it (new setting or just FR)?
It is a new setting, just a basic general fantasy world with no name as such. I am not an AD&D player so I know practically nothing about Forgotten Realms (I did dabble with D&D - the red and blue boxed sets when I was like 10 years old with some school chums - but that was a long time ago...). I have tried to remove all references to a specific setting although I do know there are some still left. There is a less RPG element to it with a more strategic emphasis in its place. My original idea was to do an X-Com:Apocalypse meets fantasy style game.
200 characters in the final battle. Whoa...how are you going to keep that from hampering the frame rate?
To be blunt - I haven't! There are some tricks like removing dead bodies and using triggers to create more creatures as you advance up the map (so they do not all appear at once) but at the end of the day you will need a powerful PC to stop it from slowing down. Sorry!
ANOTHER SoA thing. That's a shame...
EE is not compatible with ToB and it will be very unlikely that I will do the conversion. It will be a lot of work and I don't think enough will be gained to make it worth the effort. Again apologies. Maybe a bright spark out there will do it, but just like TDD there is no point until all the bugs have been ironed out. Really though, since EE requires a clean install and is not compatible with other exising game mods and does not retain the original game's plot/story, what would be the point?
On the backs of pseudodragons? Love the idea! How small are the PCs, anyway?
Well spotted! - they are not really pseudo-dragons (as in the familiars) Rewinding back to mid-November 2001 when I first saw the TeamBG website and downloaded as many of the editors as I could find - I was a complete newbie with absolutely no clue. I did manage to create one area and from there I learnt more and more. Anyway when I created these "pseudodragons" I didn't know how to change/insert new strings into the dialog.tlk file. I had created these "quasi-dragons/semi-dragons" i.e. they look like dragons and wyverns but are not as powerful but as I didn't know how to alter the dialog.tlk I thought they had to be named using an existing string. Hence I chose the closest string I could find. When I did find out how to do it I had gotten used to the name and because I had like another 100 more urgent things on my "to-do list" I left it in. EE is my very first attempt at modding so I do accept there may be some rough edges but hey we all had to start somewhere!
Is there a step by step guide to setting up multiple BG2 installations around somewhere? I'd like to keep playing TDD as it develops (as more and mor mods become compatible with it), and I'd also like to try EE and the other conversions and mods as they come out. Multiple installs would seem to be the way to do it.
It is actually possible to play the original BG2:SoA, TDD and EE using one single installation by manually copying and moving the main files but it can get a bit tricky (as you have to ensure you have the correct files in the override folder. EE will crash without some of the override files placed there by the latest official patch) so I will not release any details about it. It can cause crashes and you may have to re-install everything if you accidently delete or overwrite something that you shouldn't. For those that are interested if you have the correct files in the OVERRIDE FOLDER, the correct CHITIN.KEY, DIALOG.TLK and DIALOGF.TLK for each of these games/mods all you have to do is to make copies of them and just swap them around! Remember I will not answer any questions relating to this as it will cause more problems than solutions for those that cock-it up. There are a couple different thoughts about how to accomplish this type of mod managing, we'll let you know if a program is released that helps.
I have version 0.9.1 - What do I do?
Version 0.9.1 is obsolete and in some cases is missing several files so the game may
look strange in certain places. This was a version used for testing only and no
help will be given for this. Uninstall version 0.9.1 and install the latest
version instead.
